What is Lamination?
The term 「lamination」 is often associated with printed materials—such as menus or medical cards—coated with a protective film.
However, this is only one form of lamination.
In its original sense, lamination refers to the process of bonding multiple materials together to create new functions and properties.
For example, kraft paper alone has limited water resistance, but applying an aluminum layer can significantly enhance its waterproof properties.
Conversely, aluminum alone is prone to tearing due to its low strength.
By combining the two materials, their weaknesses are compensated for, resulting in a more functional product.
This complementary effect is one of the key advantages of lamination technology.

Sanyo Kakoshi’s Core Products
One of Sanyo Kakoshi’s most specialized and core products is Release paper. Release paper is a type of functional paper that undergoes special surface treatment to prevent materials from sticking to it. It is mainly used for the following two purposes:
Protecting the adhesive surface of sticky materials.
Examples: backing paper for stickers, medical patch films, yogurt lids, and baking parchment used in confectionery preparation.
Adding patterns, textures, or surface embossing to materials.
Examples: wood-grain patterns on flooring materials, matte or glossy finishes on home appliances, and textured surfaces on personal computers.
At Sanyo Kakoshi, we manufacture release paper mainly used for the second application—adding patterns and textures to material surfaces. These are commonly used in the surface processing of synthetic leather products such as bags and wallets, giving them a premium appearance, refined texture, and enhanced design appeal.
Although the release paper itself is rarely visible to consumers, the technology behind it is actually used in many everyday products around you.

Extrusion lamination processing

In extrusion lamination, melted resin is applied onto a base material (the substrate that serves as the foundation of the laminate), then spread evenly to form a single integrated product.
This is the processing method that Sanyo Kakoshi specializes in the most. In particular, extrusion lamination using pure polypropylene resin without additives is a rare capability, and only a limited number of factories in Japan can handle this process.

Wet lamination

Wet lamination is a process in which adhesive is applied to the base material, another material is laminated on top, and the bonded layers are then dried to achieve adhesion.
There is also another method called dry lamination, in which the adhesive is dried before the materials are bonded together.
Aluminum glass cloth used for insulation materials is manufactured using the wet lamination process at Sanyo Kakoshi.

Embossing

Embossing is a processing technique that creates raised patterns or textures on the surface of a material by forming uneven structures. Different embossing patterns can produce a variety of textures and designs.
At Sanyo Kakoshi, embossing is applied to laminated paper produced through extrusion lamination, and the finished product is delivered as release paper used in synthetic leather manufacturing.
